Avonelle Ann Ebersole, 74, of Marshalltown, rejoined her loving husband, Bill, and her Lord and Savior on Saturday night, November 22, 2014, while praying with family at her side at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at the First Baptist Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the church. For members of the Lions or Lioness, in honor of Avonelle and Bill, please wear your vests. A section will be reserved for seating as a group. Memorials may be directed to her family. Born Avonelle Ann Smith on February 3, 1940, in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of Herbert and Ruth (Piper) Smith. She was a proud graduate of the close-knit MHS Class of 1958. Avonelle later attended Simpson College. On June 10, 1966, she was united in marriage to the love of her life and soul-mate, William Bill Ebersole, in Marshalltown. They made their home in the house her father built for the remainder of their married lives. Bill and Avonelle treasured the time and friends they made traveling to Harlingen in the winter months. Avonelle was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church and the Marshalltown Lioness, and enjoyed volunteering in church and school events in Texas as well as MMSC and Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown. She was employed in a colorful career that ranged from KIOWA to Wolfe Eye Clinic, Mycogen Seeds, ASCS Office, and even Carrolls Pumpkin Farm and the Iowa State Fair. She thrived in social environments and loved people. Left to cherish her memory are Bills Children: Lillian (Michael) Schroeder of Marshall, Minnesota, Timothy Ebersole of Marshalltown, and Rodney Ebersole (Michelle Stalzer) of Grant, Colorado; her grandchildren: Sandi (Derek) Townsend of Monument, Colorado, Randi Millsap (fianc Jon Gustason) of Urbandale, Scott Schroeder of Harrisburg, South Dakota, Phil (Kate) Hemming of Pella, and Dr. Sarah (Joe) Hemming-Meyer of Indianapolis, Indiana; as well as their parents and longtime friends of the Ebersoles, Pat and Mary Hemming of Albion; great-grandchildren: Kyla, Jameson, Sullivan Forsythe, Austin and Allison Millsap, and Parker and Palmer Hemming; her sisters: LaVonne (Laurence) Stover and Anita Elmore (Deane Adams); as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In death, Avonelle has rejoined her beloved Bill who died September 6, 2009; her parents; and brother-in-law, Bill Elmore.
