Barbara Ann Stalzer was born on September 10, 1953, to Clarence and Betty (Shuler) Stalzer in Marshalltown. As a child, she relished being outdoors playing with her siblings and the neighborhood children, including activities at Riverview Park. The family enjoyed a trip nearly every year to Clear Lake. She attended school at St. Mary’s, Lenihan, and graduated from Marshalltown High School, class of 1972. Barb was united in marriage to Robert Atcher on July 22, 1972 at St. Mary’s in Marshalltown. Bob & Barb had a beautiful marriage of nearly 50 years, full of love, mutual respect, and care for each other. To this union were born three children – Monica Lynn, David Alan, and Steven Wayne. Barb was a firm but caring mother who was always quick with a hug, smile, and support for any interest or hobby in which her children were involved from softball games to weekend baseball tournaments to racing. When her grandchildren came about, that love and support extended to them as well. Barb was employed at Marshalltown Trowel, Sears, and the Iowa Veteran’s Home throughout her career. Her favorite job, however, was doing daycare for her niece and nephew during the time when she was also a stay-at-home mom. Barb will be remembered by friends and family for having the gift of gab, but with that, she was also an exceptional listener who approached everything with sincerity and compassion. She was an outstanding cook, and any family potluck was met with great anticipation of the coveted family orange jello salad and THE chocolate chip cookies. In addition, she enjoyed flower gardening, reading, puzzles, and, in her younger years, league bowling and slowpitch softball. However, her absolute favorite thing to do was having her grandchildren visit and stay over, and also attend every birthday party, meet, game, concert, or activity she possibly could. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband Bob; daughter Monica (Jim) Hoover and their children Cade and Ava of Urbandale, son David (Michelle) Atcher and their children Chase, Libby, and Blaire of Laurel; sisters Theresa (Kenny) Buffington of Marshalltown, Lorraine (Kenny) McNamara of New York; brother Keith (Cindy) Stalzer of State Center; sister-in-law Jan Hayler of Cedar Rapids; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins. Meeting her in Heaven are her beloved son Steven, parents Clarence and Betty, father-in-law and mother-in-law Carl and Arlene Atcher, and sister-in-law Diane Ohrt.
