Barb Smith, 76, of Marshalltown, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, January 30, 2011.Funeral services and a celebration of her life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, February 4th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. She graduated from the Roosevelt High School in Des Moines in 1950 and later from nursing school in Oskaloosa.Barb was united in marriage to Joseph B. Smith, Sr. in October of 1954 and they made their home in Marshalltown where she was employed at the Iowa Veterans Home until 1973 and most recently at the Villa del Sol until her retirement in 1996. Barb was a foster grandmother at the Marshalltown Public Schools- a calling she really loved. She was a member of the former Morrow United Methodist Church and currently attended Second Baptist. She will be fondly remembered for her love of family, decorating, landscaping, Christmas time and loved her profession.Left to mourn her loss is her son Joe (Annette) of Newton, four grandchildren: Brianna, Michael, Jolene and Kristina , brother Pete Jackson of Muscatine, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.In death she rejoined her husband Joe, her daughter Pam, son Mike, sisters Darlene Spencer, Joyce Kasel and Mattie Taylor and brother Dean Jackson.
