Barbara Brown-Nolan passed away quietly at home on November 1, 2026.

Born to Lloyd and Lucille Inman Carmer on February 19, 1943, in Montezuma, Iowa, Barbara was a quiet woman. She loved her dogs and enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, and a whole host of other activities, not necessarily because of the activities themselves but because of who she was with. She was proud to be a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and thus it didn’t matter what she was doing, so long as it was with her family or her husband J W Nolan, whom she married in 2017. She spent her career doing the absolutely necessary but unheralded job of laundry at Southridge long-term care facility. A quiet job, but one that makes the world go round and effects many who would never know her name. Barbara will be missed by more than just the folks who knew her, as her impact was quiet, but broad. One thing that she did for herself, was amusement parks. She may have been quiet but she loved adventure, particularly the roller coasters that would make most people queasy to look at.

Barbara is survived by her husband J W Nolan, her daughter Diedra Gee (David), many grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and her brother Daryl.

In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her brother Cecil, sister Brenda, and sister Darla.

There are no services planned at this time.

Mitchell Family Funeral Home is honored to care for Barbara and her family.
