Barbara 'Elaine' Carter

Barbara Elaine Carter, 88, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral service for Elaine will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Public visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2015 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home where her family will be present to greet friends. Barbara Elaine Carter was born on January 10, 1927 in rural Creston, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Irene (Lawson) Priest. Following her graduation from high school, she went on to graduate from Drake University. In December of 1950, Elaine married James Carter in Creston, Iowa. She spent her working years teaching at the LDF school systems teaching the 3rd grade. Elaine enjoyed playing the organ, knitting, traveling and fishing. Left to cherish her memory is one daughter: Dianne (Greg) Severa; grandchildren: Jeremy (Megan) Ruopp, Doug (LeighAnn) Ruopp, Stacey (Jay) Kozicek, and Matt Severa; great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Roland, Veronica and Drake; siblings: Dorphin (Lois) Priest, Cleone Stamper, Betty (Richard) Carpenter and Jerry Priest. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother: Dan Priest and one daughter: Joyce Ruopp.
