Barbara Edel

Barbara Edel (Groover) age 70, of Marshalltown, passed away early morning on Sunday, June 20, 2021. At this time cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service for Barbara will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Salvation Army. Barbara Joe Edel was born December 23, 1950 in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was the daughter of Edna (O’lear) and Wallace Groover. She received her education in Garwin, Iowa. On December 12, 2012 she married Donald Edel at the Senior Citizens Center and made their home in Marshalltown. Barb worked at a number of jobs including Villa Del Sol, Thunderbird Motel, Westwood Nursing Home, Ben Franklin, and the Senior Citizens Center all in Marshalltown.In her free time, Barb loved to knit baby blankets, put together puzzles, spend time with her grandchildren, watch TV, cook for her family, collect Boyd’s Bears, play cards on the computer, loved her jewelry, shopping, going to Charlie’s to have a few beers, listening to live music and visiting with friends. Barb was known for her deviled eggs. Left to mourn her loss are her husband Donald Edel, her children, Scott (Kathy) Vavroch of Gladbrook, Crystal (Christopher) Bryant of Kettering Ohio, and John Curtis Mills of Marshalltown. Her grandchildren, Kendra (Chance) Beierschmitt, Kayla and Sydney Vavroch, Nicole and Alexis Bryant and Jocelynn, Alexia, and Collin Curtis Mills; her sisters Donna Malloy of Des Moines, Charlene (Dave) Gohlinghurst of Red Oak, and her twin sister Beverly Cortez of Florida. Those who preceded her in death are her parents Edna and Wallace Groover; her brother-in-law William Malloy; and her aunt sister Charlene O’lear.
