Beatrice “Bea” Runner of Gilman, Iowa, passed away on the afternoon of May 10, 2026 at Unity Point Health-Marshalltown while surrounded by her family.
Funeral Services for Bea will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2026 beginning at 1:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 5:30 until 7:30 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery in Laurel. Memorials in Bea’s name may be directed to the Graceland Cemetery (Laurel) or Gilman Fire Department. Beatrice Darlene Anderson was born March 31, 1932 in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was the eldest of three children born to Clarence and Gretchen (Mullin) Anderson. She grew up in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Bea met Donald Runner and the two were united in marriage on September 16, 1949 in Rock Island, Illinois. They made their home together on the farm and had six children. Bea worked alongside Don in all aspects of farming as well as caring for her home and their children. In Bea and Don’s later years, they became snow birds and spent winters in Texas.
In her free time, she took part in the Green Grove Garden Club and enjoyed her time in her garden and caring for her evergreen grove. Her hobbies included cake decorating, sewing, and spending time volunteering at the farm auctions serving in the food trucks. She loved her family over all things and loved hosting family get togethers. She did everything that she could possibly do for her family and loved being a grandma. Bea was also known to have a soft spot for cats having many pets over the years.
Those left to remember and cherish her memory are her children, Janet (Kenny) Hutcheson, David (Jane) Runner and Judy (Steve) Carter; six grandchildren, Brandon (Courtney) Hutcheson, Jennifer (Derek) Christensen, Andrea Runner, Dan (Dana) Runner, Erin (Chris) Wight and Lisa (Jacob) Petersen; 18 great-grandchildren, Trevor Lewis, Chase Hutcheson, Alton Taylor, Gavin Taylor, Pieper Taylor, Ty Hutcheson, Drew Runner, Delaney Runner, Thomas Gomez, Daphne Bezas, Maggie Wight, Sophie Wight, Bennett Wight, Carter Wight, Iris Petersen, Eden Petersen, Ryah Petersen and Winnie Petersen; and one great-great granddaughter Amelia Hutcheson. Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Betty Burgess.
In eternal life, she is reunited with her husband, Donald Runner; her sons, Richard Runner, Donald “Butch” Runner, Daniel Runner; grandson, Tom Runner; parents, Clarence and Gretchen Anderson; and brother, Clarence “Jim” Anderson.
