Ben Clifford Dawson, 89, of Marshalltown, passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services for Ben will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel in Marshalltown. Visitation will be one hour before service time. Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 14, 2017 at the Iowa Veterans Home Cemetery in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to either the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Michael J. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Ben and his family. Ben Dawson was born on February 7, 1928 in Des Moines to Benjamin and Margaret Crane Dawson. He graduated high school from Exline, Iowa in 1945. Ben enlisted in the United States Army towards the end of World War II and served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952. On December 24, 1952, Ben was united in marriage to Betty Cornett in Centerville. Ben was employed in insurance as well as a Real Estate Agent. He was a member of the VFW and Legion in Centerville. Ben enjoyed square dancing, traveling all over the United States on his motorcycle, managing his rental properties and anything to do with the Veterans. Ben is survived by his children: Diana (Steven) Staats of Cedar Falls and Cheryl (Allen) Czaplicki of Port St. Lucie, Florida. Grandchildren: Rebecca (Troy) Weaver of Cedar Falls, Jared (Jenni) Staats of Cedar Falls, Joel Staats of Fargo, North Dakota, Steven (Mellissa) Clanton of West Palm Beach, Florida, John Clanton of Vero Beach, Florida, Jeff Clanton of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Ben (Jamie) Dawson of Carlisle and Jerri Jo (Byron) Blazek of Altoona. He is also survived by twenty great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. Ben is preceded in death by his wife Betty, son, David and his spouse Penny, parents Benjamin and Margaret and siblings Maxine Moffit, Robert Dawson, Dale Dawson and Frank Dawson.
