Ben Hibbs, 71 of Marshalltown, IA passed away unexpectedly on April 5th, 2018 with his family by his side in Arizona. Memorial services for Ben will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at the Mitchel Family Funeral Home with Pastor John Whitehead officiating. Public visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 16, 2018 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, where his family will be present to greet friends. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be directed in Ben’s name to the Animal Rescue League (ARL) of Marshalltown, IA. Ben was born on April 9th, 1946 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Leonard G. and Dorothy M. (Gloe) Hibbs. Ben graduated from Marshalltown High School (Class of 1964), and the University of Dubuque (Class of 1968) with a BS in Biology and Physical Education. Lettered 4 years in football and baseball at the University of Dubuque. Ben worked for 35 years for the Marshalltown Community Schools. He taught and coached wrestling and football at Anson and Lenihan Junior High Schools. Later at Marshalltown High School, Ben taught Earth Science and coached Freshman Football.He was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge #312, and a lifetime member of the NEA. Upon retirement in 2003, Ben enjoyed spending time on the family farm, gardening, traveling to Galena, Illinois, and wintering in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Ben will be missed dearly by his Life Partner, Karen Streeter, of Marshalltown and her children: Lisa (Ed) Kasper, Roland, IA, Kevin Streeter, LeGrand, IA, and Shawna Groshong, Des Moines, IA. 6 Grand Children and 3 Great Grand Children. A sister, Patricia Jones, Dacula, GA. A nephew, Travis (Michelle) Jones, Decatur, GA. A brother, Joel D. (Jackie) Hibbs, Marshalltown. A nephew, Troy Hibbs (Julie Andrews), Laurel, IA., and a Niece, Amanda (Russ) Moore, Nevada, IA, and 7 Great Nieces and Nephews. In death Ben rejoined his parents and his beloved dog, Lucky.
