Though Bernie had a small family by blood, including cousins- Roseanne (Mrs. Kenneth) Johnson of Mounds View, MN. And Lynn (Jack) Yoder in Colorado, he was extremely blessed by the people in his community. His best friend from childhood through adulthood, John Whaley and his family, his spiritual guidance and friend, Bea Lebuda, dear friends whom he loved to stop and visit Gene Walters and Ellis Bailey, Mr. Small in Liscomb and his friend and attorney he was so proud of, Jack Holveck of Des Moines.
