Bernice Ferneau, 99, of the Bickford Cottages in Marshalltown, died late Thursday night, November 11th, at her home while in care of her family, Bickford Cottages and the Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 16th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Monday. Born on January 19th, 1911, at Waterloo, Iowa, she was the daughter Ralph and Sada (Voris) Brayton. They family moved to Waverly when she was 4 years of age and then to Marshalltown at age 15.On October 8th, 1927, she was united in marriage to LaVerne Ferneau in Albert Lea, MN. They farmed in the Conrad community until moving to Marshalltown in 1985. She was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church in Marshalltown, the Women of the Moose and the Academy of Friendship and had served as past worthy matron of the Conrad Eastern Star as well as organist for the Conrad community and Bethany United Methodist Church. Left to cherish her memory are her four children: Jane Black of Yakima, WA, Robert (Pearl) Ferneau of Marshalltown, Richard (Virginia) Ferneau of Marshalltown and John (Pat) Ferneau of Clemons, 17 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren. In death she rejoined her husband LaVerne who died in 1981, sister Betty McKenzie, brother Glen Brayton, son-in-law Ray Black, daughter-in-law Marjorie Ferneau and great-grandson Andy Jerome
