Bernita Cartee

Bernita Cartee, 73, of Marshalltown, died Friday, October 14, 2011, at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. Per Bernitas wishes, following cremation, no services are planned at this time. On Sunday, October 16, from 1:00 p.m. 3:00 p.m., a family dinner and gathering will be held at the Kaufman Park Shelter in State Center, Iowa. Bernita was born August 18, 1938, in rural Greene, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Minnie (Fick) Kielman. She was raised in the rural Greene and Plainfield, Iowa areas and graduated from the Plainfield High School. Bernita was united in marriage to Richard Cartee on February 2, 1957, in Morrison, Illinois. Following their marriage they made their home in Melbourne, Iowa, where they raised their family. Bernita was very active in the community of Melbourne working as a City Clerk, as well as at the Rec Center and the local restaurant and bar. Above all she was a loving and devoted wife to her husband of 54 years, Richard, and was the perfect mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family and will be dearly missed. Bernita is survived by her husband Richard of Marshalltown, her children: Terri (Jeff) Ulch of Clemons, Tracy Cartee of Marshalltown, Tricia Cartee of Marshalltown, her brother Stan (Sandy) Kielman of Melbourne, her six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Bernita was preceded in death by her parents.
