Bertha W. Giesenberg, 95, of Marshalltown, died July 17, 2009, at her home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 20th, 2009, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Gladbrook. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Bertha Wilma Essen was born on April 23, 1914, in Grundy County. She was the only child of Bert and Corlene (Hundertmark) Essen. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1932. Bertha married Earl Youngblood and they had two sons, Jim and Jack. She later married Walter L. Giesenberg and they had two children, Leon and Karen. Bertha lived in Cedar Falls, on a farm near Green Mountain, and, since March of 2008, had lived with her daughter, Karen and her husband in Marshalltown. Bertha was a homemaker and a farmers wife. She was a member of HHW 500 Card Club and the Gladbrook Chapel LCA. She enjoyed going to the Senior Citizens Center, sewing, crocheting, flowers, and animals, especially cats. Bertha will be missed by her children, Jim (Linda) Youngblood of Roach, MO, Jack (Melinda) Youngblood of Marshalltown, and Karen (Scott) Everett of Marshalltown; her six grandchildren, Sharon Cathcart, Mike Youngblood, Coby Youngblood, Cody Youngblood, Matthew Ferneau, and Rachel Ferneau; her six great-grandchildren, Darron Cathcart, Stacy Cathcart, Alex Youngblood, Carly Youngblood, Carson Youngblood, and August Geery; and her precious pet cat, Peek-a-Boo. In death, she has rejoined her first husband, Earl Youngblood, her second husband, Walter Giesenberg, and her son, Leon Giesenberg, who died in 2004.
