Bette J. Chervenka, 83, of Marshalltown, died Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at the Grandview Heights Care Center while under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Graveside memorial services for Bette will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 2, at the St. Patrick Cemetery in Tama. Following services, a memorial luncheon will be held at 11:00 AM at the St. Henry Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Memorial contributions may be directed in Bettes name to the Marshalltown Public Library located at 105 West Boone Street, Marshalltown, Iowa. For further information or to send a condolence please visit www.mitchellfh.comBette was born December 14, 1926, in Washta, Iowa, the daughter of Reverend Clark Zeigler and Mae Houdeshell. She was united in marriage to Joseph C. Chervenka on June 24, 1946, in Tama, Iowa. Bette has resided in Marshalltown since 1978. During World War II, Bette operated a large machine at Scott Tent & Awning in Marshalltown which made custom tents for the United States Defense Effort. For her efforts Bette received an award for her outstanding work and service to the United States. Throughout her lifetime Bette was known for her creative flower arranging skills and was the recipient of several awards at the flower shows and fairs at which she participated. Bette was also a very skilled seamstress who started, owned and managed a custom craft business in Marshalltown for over ten years. Bette was a very active member and volunteer of the St. Henry Catholic Church. She managed the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center gift shop for many years and was also a very dedicated volunteer for the school administration donating her time. Bette is survived by her daughter Judi (Terry) McAnulty of Marshalltown, her son Mark Chervenka of Urbandale, her daughter Jan (Mark) Evert of Cedar Falls, her sister Bonnie Zeigler; her three grandchildren: Tad Dawson, Kirk Chervenka and Laura Husmann; her 6 great-grandchildren: Caleb, Tyler and Annica Chervenka and Emmett, Zion and Josiah Husmann. Bette was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph in May of 1976, and her son Karl in November of 1999.
