Betty Jane Plander Auringer, 91, of Marshalltown, passed away on the morning of Friday, September 11th, at the Hawkeye Care Center (formerly Villa del Sol) in Marshalltown. Betty was in care of her loving family, the staff of Hawkeye Care and Iowa River Hospice. Memorial services for Betty will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2015, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Kosbau officiating. Public visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until services begin. A private family burial will take place following services. Memorial contributions may be directed in Bettys name to her family. Born Betty Jane Plander on October 27th, 1923, in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of Frederick George Plander and Lucille Pelham Plander. Betty graduated from the Marshalltown High Schools Class of 1941. She began her working career at Wacha Candy Store and later followed with employment at Marshalltown Canning (until they found out she was too young!), Woolworths, Kresges, Marshalltown Instruments (during WWII), Catron Drug Store, Look Magazine, Continental Western Insurance, Strand Bakery and lastly, Fisher Controls for a dedicated 32 years. Mrs. Auringer was a longtime member of the OES and the UAW Local #893. She enjoyed traveling, cooking and baking, and events of the Eastern Star and Shrine with her husband, Roy. Left to cherish her memory are her son, John (Maggie) Catron, Mike (Wanda) Catron, daughter Pat Holden and friend Jim Egger, nine grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. In death, Betty rejoined her first husband John Catron and second husband Roy Auringer- whom she was married to for 42 years. Roy blessed her family with a wonderful home. Also preceding her in death were two brothers- Henry and Ferris Skip Plander, two sisters- Martha Gazaway and Mary Lou Carter and an infant son, Tommy Catron.
