Betty Janice (Braatz) Christerson was born August 1, 1931, as the second daughter to Werner and Louise (Sprong) Braatz in Whittemore, Iowa. Her family moved to Marshalltown her sophomore year, where she graduated in 1949 from MHS.

On August 27, 1950, she married R.W. “Bill” Christerson. During that time, they had three girls: Jamie, Jackie and Julie. Betty was a stay-at-home mom during her girls’ elementary years. Later she worked at The Book Nook and Carpet Mart, but most people will remember her as a teller at Security Bank, where she worked for over 20 years.

After retirement, she and Bill were able to visit friends and family in various parts of the country. They also visited Europe and enjoyed traveling south for the winter. Betty was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and ice cream. She attended Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marshalltown, where she belonged to the Altar Circle for years.

Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters: Jamie Milhous, Jackie Christerson-Knoepfler and Julie (Byron) Coleman; three grandkids: Bryan (Amber) Coleman, Abbie (Neal Burns) Knoepfler and Josh (Shara) Coleman; and five great-grandchildren: Hayden, Hailey, Tavin, Isaiah and Olivia. She is also survived by sister Sharon (Jim) Meggison; sisters-in-law: Mary Braatz and Gwen Braatz; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bill, her parents, son-in-law Bill Knoepfler, brothers Charles and Lou Braatz, and two sisters and their husbands: Mary and Bob Waite, and Liz and Leroy Klein.

A special thanks to the Glenwood staff for all their love and support, especially Betty’s “adopted” daughter, Josette.

- Lovingly written by the family
