Betty Cooper

Betty M. Cooper, 87, of the Iowa Veterans Home, formerly of LaMoille, died Sunday, July 31st, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 4, at the LaMoille Congregational Church with Pastor Harlan Nuss officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Elmwood Cemetery at LaMoille. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Ph. 641-844-1234.Born Betty Maxine Havens on September 19, 1923, in Fairfax, South Dakota, she was the daughter of Alfred and Susie (Ekleberry) Havens. She graduated from the Marshalltown High Schools Class of 1941 and later received her teachers certificate. She taught in the Dunbar and Ferguson and area country schools. On June 5, 1948, at the Little Brown Church, she was united in marriage to Delbert Bus Cooper. They made their home at LaMoille where she was a member of the LaMoille Congregational Church and was active in teaching Sunday school. She was also a member of the Federated Womens Club. Betty was an accomplished artist and painted many pictures in her life. She had a great love of music, played the guitar and sang with her sisters, she and her sisters sang on KFJB when they were young, they were billed as The Havens Sisters. She treasured her family and time spent in the garden and with flowers.Left to cherish her memory are Delbert Bus, her loving husband of 63 years, sisters: Marjorie (Dean) Butters and Patty (Dale) Wiese of Marshalltown and Gloria Chappelear of Happy Camp, CA, sisters-in-law Mary Jeanne Cooper of Nevada, Iowa, and Betty Mahoney of San Diego, CA, as well as many nieces and nephews and their families whom she loved very much.In death she rejoined her parents and three sisters- Fern Halsted, June Shank and Claribel Byers.
