Betty (Mrs. Dan) Dobbin, 86, of rural State Center, died Saturday morning, February 10th, at her home. Funeral services and a celebration of her life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 15th, at the State Center Presbyterian Church with Pastor Keith McDonald officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Hillside Cemetery at State Center. Born Betty Sorensen on March 20th, 1921, in Lombard, IL. she was the daughter of Chris and Jessie (Binford) Sorensen. She graduated from the Albion High School and attended the Central Iowa Business School in Marshalltown. On March 23rd, 1941, she was united in marriage to Dan Dobbin at the Albion United Methodist Church. They have resided all of their married lives on the Dobbin family farm with the round barn. Mrs. Dobbin was an active member of the State Center Presbyterian Church, the PEO, Iowa Federated Women (holding numerous positions there), Dutchess Dollies, the Marshall County and State Center Historical Societies and served on the church choir and lunch committees. Many will remember Betty for her love of her family and friends. Blessed with Gods gift of hospitality, she welcomed all into her home. She cooked and baked, sang and played the piano and even sang with a traveling quartet. One of her ministries was to comfort breast cancer patients, as she was one and a 30 year survivor. Betty promoted Reach for Recovery for those patients through the Marshalltown hospital. She was proud of her Danish heritage, liked horses and working with her husband Dan on the farm. She always took on any challenge. Left to celebrate her life are her loving husband of 65 years, Dan, her son Thomas Daniel (JoAnn) Dobbin of Cedar Rapids, daughter Christy (Jonathan) Chambers of Athens, GA., grandchildren: Heidi (Scott) Thompson of Dallas, GA., Chip (Gina) Dobbin of Zeeland, Michigan, Sara Jessie Dobbin of Cedar Rapids, Catherine (Mike) Farley of Athens, GA, Jeffrey Sellars of Cedar Rapids, six great-grandchildren; Alexander, Devin, Codie, Spencer, Brooke and Lily, her brother Robert Sorensen of Minneapolis, MN and sister Phyllis Coffman of South English, Iowa, as well as her PEO sisters, church family and neighborhood family that she cherished. In death she has rejoined her parents, nephew Randy and infant sister, Helen Jean Sorensen Betty is now dancing and singing in heaven a joy she shared with all who loved her on earth.
