Betty Hovey

Betty E. Hovey, 94, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away early Monday morning, February 13, 2023.

Services for Betty will take place on Friday, February 17 at 11:00 A.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Al Frank officiating. Born Betty Elaine Lee on August 11, 1928 in Nevada, Iowa, she was the daughter of Carl and Anna Lee. Betty was united in marriage to two wonderful gentlemen in her lifetime: Charles Hovey and Dale Luense. She had a colorful working career, including candling eggs in her younger years and in women’s fashion at Herman’s. She then worked at Schlitz Distributing and Golden Corral, as well as Americ-Inn near Wolfe Clinic. She also owned and operated Betty’s Tap on East Main Street alongside her husband, Dale. In her free time, Betty enjoyed spending time with her grandkids at the pool, sewing and cooking. She was very social and loved feeding the ducks at Riverside. She also loved her “soapies,” especially Young and the Restless and B & B (Bold and Beautiful).

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Laurie Hovey of Marshalltown; bonus daughter, Pam Weatherly-Michel and her children: Jilissa Weatherly and Lance Michel; bonus great-grandchildren: Angela, Amiaha and Zuri and great-great-granddaughter Stella; and special niece Lorrie Ann Bartlett as well as several precious nieces and nephews.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert “Bob” Lee.
