Betty Jean Jacobs, age 90, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on June 9, 2024, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services for Betty are scheduled for Friday, June 14, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church in Marshalltown. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation one hour prior. She will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church. Betty Jean Jacobs was born February 23, 1934, in Ames, Iowa. She was the daughter of Howard and Cleo (Sampson) Ballard. Betty attended school in the Marshalltown School District and graduated from Marshalltown High School. On June 3, 1951, she married the love of her life John Richard Jacobs at First Presbyterian Church in Marshalltown. Betty worked at Hy-Vee grocery store as a cashier for many years. For the majority of her life, she was very much involved with her church. Family was very important to her, and spending time with her granddaughters and great grandson always made her smile. Betty enjoyed planting flowers, crocheting, reading, cooking, baking especially when she baked the best chocolate cake ever. She also liked to spend time at the casino.
She is survived by her children; Debra (Jim) Avise of Marshalltown and Richard Jacobs of Lake Tahoe, her granddaughters; Julie and Lorie Avise, her great grandson Logan Oetker, and her siblings; Bonnie Ballantyne of Ames, IA. and Chuck (Shirley) Ballard of McCallsburg, IA., and many nieces and nephews.
In death she has been reunited with her husband John after 29 years apart. Betty is also preceded in death by her parents Howard and Cleo, her sister Ilene, and her Yorkie “Misty Blue.”
