Betty Luethje-Nicholson, 86, of Marshalltown, died early Saturday morning, May 17th, at the Villa del Sol where she has resided since May of 2012. Just days before her passing, Betty wanted to publicly thank, through her obituary, all the Staff at Villa del Sol, her great nurses aides- Marty, Myra, Claudia and all the nurses, her dear friend Shirley, nieces Sherri and Sheila and especially her family- Victoria and Ronald. Her prayers were for God to bless all of her family and friends. Per Bettys wishes, no services will be held at this time. A family celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, July 6th, at 2:00 p.m. at the Riverside Cemetery, Fairview Section. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Born Betty Marie Petersen on November 28th, 1927, in Archer, Nebraska, she was the daughter of Eugene and Dora (Hinkel) Petersen. She received training in accounting. Marshalltown and Gladbrook were the places she called home in her adult life. Betty was a devoted member of the Moose Lodge, Women of the Moose Local #71 (held many offices) and enjoyed her friends at the Westtown Apts. where she resided before moving to Villa del Sol. Betty was a fantastic cook and baker and will be remembered for many dishes including potato salad. She also enjoyed bowling, ceramics and making flowers for weddings. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Victoria (Roger) Hutton of St. Charles, Ronald (LaVern) Halsted of Grand Prairie, Texas, five grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren, her siblings: Eugene (Melba) Petersen in Missouri, Gerald (Mavis) Petersen of Hampton, Harold Lee Petersen of Creston, Iowa, Mary (Richard) Kratoska of Marshalltown, and Rita (Don) Bruene of Boone, Iowa, as well as many nieces and nephews, her dear friend Shirley Knoll and her Westtown and Villa del Sol families. In death, she rejoined her husbands, Lynn Luethje (1973) and Jack Nicholson (2000), her parents, two sisters, and one brother.
