She graduated from the LeGrand High Schools Class of 1954 and later the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls (now UNI), receiving her Bachelors degree in elementary education. Betty was instrumental in the childhood development and education of hundreds of children in the LDF school system until her retirement in 1994. On December 27th, 1956, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Merl Niederhauser, at the LeGrand Friends Church. They made their home at Dillon, where she was active in the Trinity Lutheran Church of Dillon and community events. Betty was also a member of the East Marshall Retired Teachers. Her grandchildren were the highlight of her life- and any activity they have, you can bet Betty and Merl would be there. She enjoyed camping, going on Cruises, wintering in Texas, sewing, crafts, watching NASCAR, Gold Rush, and Dancing with the Stars, as well as any cooking show. She will be greatly missed by family and friends alike. Left to cherish her memory is Merl, her loving husband of 60 years; children: Kimberly Sue (Bill) Bjelland; Kari Ann (Trent) Uhde and Kyle Edward (Damie) Niederhauser all of Dillon; her grandchildren: Raechel Sue (Adam) Wilkens, Keven Merl Bjelland, Jeremy Lynn Bjelland, Tyrel James Bjelland, Gabriel Howard Uhde, Abigale Ann Uhde, Alexandria Elizabeth Niederhauser, Bailee Kay Niederhauser, and Cora Ann Niederhauser; great-grandchildren, Riley Sue Wilkens and Ashlyn Ann Wilkens; as well as her sister, Susan Jane Dunham and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In death, Betty rejoined her parents, son Keven Merl Niederhauser and brothers Robert Wendall and John Wesley Fanton.
