Betty Pickard, 91, of Melbourne, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2015, at the State Center Nursing and Rehab Center in State Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2015, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday August 23, 2015, at the funeral home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Betty Jane Montgomery was born on November 7, 1923 in Green Island, Iowa she was the daughter of Clarence and Maude (Swails) Montgomery. Betty attended high school at Davenport Central High School graduating with the class of 1940, and then went on to attend Mercy Nursing School and graduated with her RN Degree. On March 10, 1946, Betty was united in marriage to Max Pickard at the Methodist Church on Melbourne, Iowa, they had resided on the farm south of Melbourne their entire married lives. Betty had worked at Mercy Hospital in Marshalltown and the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical until her retirement in 1986. She had been a member of Methodist Church in Melbourne and Eastern Star. Betty was an avid reader, raised a large garden, and canned the produce from the garden; she enjoyed sewing, quilting, fishing and all kinds of puzzles, she enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeye and Iowa State Cyclone basketball and football. Left to cherish her memory are her children; Paula(Donald) Keeler of Storm Lake, Iowa, Rosalyn Milbrandt of Corcoran, Minnesota, Joseph(Debbie) Pickard of Grimes, Iowa and daughter-in-law, Kathy Pickard, Alden, Iowa, grandchildren: Sean (Courtney) Keeler, Lee Keeler, Zachery Pickard, Elizabeth(Dan) Maas, Shannon(Steve) Heim, Patrick Brinton, Clinton(Rachel) Pickard, and Melanie(Tyler) Bell, great-grandchildren, Dylan, Ava, Ethan, Austin, Alex, Katherine, Michael ,Victoria and Gillian. In death Betty rejoins her parents, Clarence and Maude, husband, Max Pickard, sons, Robert and James Pickard, siblings, Milton and Donald Montgomery and son-in-law, Michael Milbrandt.
