Betty Shutt, 83, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday May 13, 2016, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Central Christian Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will held on Monday, May 16, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 8:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Betty Jean Paxson was born on August 9, 1932, in Marshalltown, Iowa; she was the daughter of Oliver Bull and Margaret Jean (Springer) Paxson. Betty attended school in the Marshalltown Community School District graduating with the Class of 1950. On October 1, 1951, Betty was united in marriage to Ronald Shutt in Glenwood, Iowa. They had resided in Marshalltown their entire married lives. Betty had worked in bookkeeping in many local businesses over the years. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, American Legion, Golf League, Bowling League and the Central Christian Church of Marshalltown. Betty enjoyed crocheting and made a blanket for each of her 33 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, dancing on Saturday nights, cards, and going to the casino and the Senior Center for bingo, but most of all Betty loved and cherished her family. Left to cherish Bettys memory is her husband of 64 years, Ronald; children: Cindy (Daryl) Boehmer, LeAnn (Jim) Trowbridge, Joni (Jeff) Lewis and Mark (Kim) Shutt, all of Marshalltown, Iowa; grandchildren: Katie (James) Lundberg, Kevin (Kristen) Boehmer, Kayla Boehmer, Jim (Maria) Trowbridge, Amy (Dan) Stephens, Joey (Lindi) Trowbridge, Jillisa (Dustin) Haunsperger, Joshua (Marrissa Brown) Rhoer, Zachary, Blake, and Emily Shutt; and 12 great grandchildren and 2 on the way; siblings, Dick (Barbara) Paxson of Waterloo, Iowa, Judy (Don) Stalzer of Haverhill, Iowa and Dennis Paxson of Marshalltown, Iowa; as well as many nieces and nephews. In death Betty rejoins her parents, Bull and Margaret, and grandparents. The family would like to especially thank Southridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care shown to Betty over the last three years.
