Bev was born on August 9, 1952 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Charles (Vern) and Betty Clapsaddle. She graduated from BCL High School in Conrad, Iowa in 1970. In June of 1972, she married Steven Simmons. They welcomed their beloved daughter Stephanie on July 30, 1973. They were married for 16 years, divorcing in 1988.
Later in life, Beverley married Burton Clover, on the first day of Spring in 1995. They continued to celebrate their marriage on the first day of Spring, regardless of the calendar date. It was a symbol of new beginnings for them both.
Throughout her life, Bev held a variety of jobs in the Marshalltown community. She was a homemaker and an accomplished seamstress. She worked at Benny’s Café. She also worked as a floral delivery person, and later became employed as a clerk at a Casey’s General store. She was eventually promoted to a managerial position, and successfully ran the store on N 3rd Avenue for 17 years until she retired in 2004.
To know Bev was to love Bev. She could light up any room with her smile and her laughter. She and Burt enjoyed ballroom dancing - participating in many years of dance classes. Bev also loved music, singing and karaoke. It was not at all unusual for her to break out into a song and start dancing whenever the mood struck her – no matter where she was! One of her favorite t-shirts sums up her personality perfectly: If you can’t find the sunshine, BE the sunshine. Bev was always the sunshine.
In addition to her many other talents, Bev was a competitive billiards player. She played on multiple league teams in Des Moines and Marshalltown, and absolutely loved her pool girls, winning several state and regional tournaments together. She also participated in bowling leagues for many years.
Bev loved to travel. She and Burt enjoyed many cruises and trips together. They attended the Old Thresher’s and Settlers Reunion in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa each year. They made trips to Missouri to visit friends and family, and trips to Colorado to visit Stephanie, Troy and Tanner. One of her favorite annual activities was participation in RAGBRAI. Bev completed her 28th consecutive RAGBRAI ride (minus the Covid year) this past July with her dear friends from the Iowa Valley Bicycling Club. She also treasured the trips and good times with her “GaGa” girls.
Beverley was preceded in death by her parents, brother Charles and nephews Charlie and Glenn.
She is survived by four siblings Ronald Clapsaddle (CA), Richard Clapsaddle (MO), Barb Duncan (NC), and Mike Clapsaddle (IA) and her treasured daughter Stephanie (Troy) Kammerdiener, stepdaughter Julie (Jim) Hoyland and stepson Chris (Mary) Clover. In addition, she leaves behind her nine grandchildren Tanner, Ryan, Amanda, Kayley, Dannika, Malarie, Angel, Alex and Nevaeh, three great grandchildren, ten nieces and nephews, and many other cousins and extended family members, all of whom she loved dearly.
And lastly, Bev leaves behind the love of her life - her husband Burt, who will cherish her memory and carry their love for each other in his heart until the end of time.
Memorials in Beverley’s name may be directed to Iowa River Hospice.
