Beverly Ann (Sietmann) DeWitt

August 31, 1928 – July 1, 2023

Beverly Ann (Sietmann) DeWitt was born and raised in the little farm community of Laurel, Iowa, where she lived within a 12-mile radius of her birthplace for most of her life. She was born on August 31, 1928, the daughter of Carl and Ethel Sietmann, and was married to Arthur J. DeWitt, Jr., on June 18, 1947. They shared almost seventy-one years of marriage together before his passing on May 15, 2018.

Beverly was a star basketball player, loved roller skating, and was salutatorian of her graduating high school class. She lived next door to her church (Laurel Zion Evangelical United Brethren Church) and grew up in the faith, attending church camp as a young girl where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Beverly attended Business College, prior to her marriage to Arthur.

Beverly and Arthur farmed for fifty years, raising corn and soybeans, cattle, sheep and hogs during different seasons of their farm life. While Beverly worked the fields and livestock alongside of her husband during the day, she labored late into the night hours as a home typist for R. H. Donnelly Corporation. She was also a Sunday School teacher at their church and the Youth Leader for many years. Early in her life Beverly had a desire to be a missionary, but she lived that heart desire out in her own community as she shared the love of Jesus and her heart of compassion for others. Her radiant smile would always light up the atmosphere around her as people would sense the presence of God’s love shining through her.

Beverly began working as a hospital volunteer at the Marshalltown hospital prior to their retirement from active farming, and continued to work at the hospital for twenty years which gave her great joy and satisfaction as she offered loving and gracious outreach to those whom she was privileged to assist during their hospital visits. Her strong faith and farm work ethic is a major part of the legacy she is now passing on to her children and grandchildren.

Beverly is survived by her two children, Dennis (Sara) DeWitt of Spencer and Diana DeWitt of Nashville, Tennessee. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Lucas (Lisa) DeWitt, Joellen Hamann, Steven (Kelly) Hough, and Heather (Jimmy) Bush. Her twelve great-grandchildren include Madison, Jackson, and Riley DeWitt; Carter, Cayden, and Cammie Hamann; Camden, Kaia, and Layna Bush; Henry, Annie, and Ruby Hough. She is also survived by her sister, Joyce Paul, and sister-in-law, Donna Sietmann, as well as by many nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ethel Sietmann and her husband, Arthur J. DeWitt, Jr. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Betty Benskin and brother, Richard Sietmann, and half-sister Fern Atkinson.

Beverly dearly loved her family and all of her friends in Iowa, and also her new friends in Tennessee who welcomed and loved her when she moved to Nashville to live with her daughter, Diana, after the passing of her husband, in 2018. She leaves her mark of faith and love on many hearts both near and far.
