Beverly Johnson

Beverly Nell Benson Johnson, 72, of Albion, Iowa, died Friday, October 26, 2012 at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. Services for Beverly will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation for Beverly will be held from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home where her family will be present to greet friends. For further information or to send a condolence please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call (641) 844-1234.Beverly was born September 23, 1940, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Cecil (Mike) Eugene Benson and Helen Cleta Hall. Beverly was raised and educated in LaMoille (LaMoille Consolidated School) and State Center, graduating from the West Marshall school system. After high school, she went on to become a CNA and worked as a Nurse Aide in the Marshalltown area when the children were older. On December 13, 1958, in LaMoille, Iowa Beverly was united in marriage to the love of her life, Dennis L. Johnson. Beverly and Dennis made their home in Albion where Beverly was an In-home childcare provider when her children were young. Throughout her lifetime she enjoyed traveling in their camper to Wisconsin, Minnesota, Missouri and Arkansas as well as being part of the outdoors and bird watching. They also took an extended trip to Hawaii which was a highlight in Beverlys life. Beverly was a cat lover and had many special cat-friends through her life. Beverly had collections including owls, salt and pepper shakers, elephants and plates. She sewed for her girls when they were young and liked working with her hands knitting and crocheting. Beverly was also a marvelous cook!! In 1973 she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis with prognosis of 10 years to live. Beverly was a resilient woman who outlived the prediction by 20 years and even overcame breast cancer and fibromyalgia.She is survived by: her husband; Dennis Johnson; children; Cherrie Johnson (Mike Ring), Debra Johnson and Dennette Johnson; grandchildren; Khambia Clarkson, John Wolf, Scarlet Sharp, Sarah and Jon Moore; great-grandchildren; Khamdyn, Thomas and Tabitha; Siblings, Howard (JeNell) Hilleman, Joan (Richard) Rust, Janice (Gene) Horn, Alan ( Karen) Hilleman and Jean (Lyle) Hilleman-Oswood.She is preceded in death by: her parents Cecil (Mike) and Helen Benson, Parents In-Law, Lester and Elsie Johnson; Brother In-Law, John Kerry Johnson and siblings, Mr. and Mrs. Dale and Marilyn Hilleman.
