Billy Cochenour, 63, of Newton, Iowa, passed away on the morning of March 26, 2022 at the Taylor House Hospice Home in Des Moines, Iowa surrounded by his loving family. Per Billy’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a family led celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials in Billy’s name may be directed to his family. Billy Leon Cochenour was born June 20, 1958 to parents Ross and Norma “Colleen” (Orton) Cochenour in Kirksville Missouri. At a young age, Billy and his family moved to Iowa and he attended school in Le Grand. He graduated from Le Grand in 1977. Prior to moving to Newton, Billy lived in Marshalltown for a number of years working at KIOWA. He eventually accepted a position at the Maytag plant in Newton where he was employed until the company shut down. It was at this time that Billy went to work for Maytag Blue Cheese where he had worked for numerous years. In his free time, Billy loved being outdoors and enjoyed going fishing and hunting. He was a great cook and loved to make homemade salsas. Billy played on bowling leagues in Marshalltown and liked to play games of darts to anyone who would play. He had a caring attitude, was soft hearted, and loved his family. Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his children, Billy Lee Cochenour and John (Taryn) Cochenour; his mother Colleen (Bill) House; his siblings, Nancy (Rodney) Bachman, Debbie (Carl) Ehrhardt, Calvin (Dana) House, Julie (Mike) Karsjen, Evelina (Greg) Sutterfield, Sam Cochenour and James Cochenour. He was preceded in death by his father Ross (Mary) Cochenour; his grandmother Hazel (Perry) Orton; and his brother Bobby Cochenour.
