Bonnie Sutherland

Bonnie Sutherland, age 84, of Marshalltown, passed away at UnityPoint Health in Marshalltown on Friday, July 31, 2020 to be with her special angels in heaven.  Cremation rites have been accorded per the wishes of Bonnie and her family.  Services will be held Friday, September 11, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish: St. Henry Catholic Church, followed immediately by burial at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Born Bonnie June Quinlan on June 17, 1936 in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of Sprague C. and Elnora A. (Petermeier) Quinlan.  She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1954. On August 12, 1955, Bonnie married the love of her life, Gary Michael Sutherland.  They resided in Marshalltown and celebrated 60 years of marriage together before Gary’s passing in 2016.   Bonnie worked several jobs throughout her lifetime.  She worked as a secretary at Fisher Controls, dispatch for Marshalltown Police Department, at Gethmann Construction, had an in-home daycare and most recently worked at Younkers. Bonnie was a member of St. Henry’s Church, the Moose Lodge and the Marshalltown Bowling League.  In her free time, she enjoyed bowling, crocheting, sewing, gardening, bird-watching, baking and riding motorcycles with Gary.  She collected Barbies, Willow Tree figures and frogs.  Bonnie was a “social bug” and loved visiting with people. Left to cherish her memory are her children:  Michael “Mick” (Janet) Sutherland, Kimberely “Kim” (Justin) Howe and Bryan (Brenda) Stone;  grandchildren: Brandon (Amber) Sutherland, Katie Sutherland, Jake Wright, Drew (Taree) Wright, Luke (Erin) Wright, Traci Wright, Aaron “AJ” (Gretchen) Stone, Adam Stone, Bre (Greg) Wood, Brody Stone and Carissa Stone; and great-grandchildren: Blake Wright, Kaden Wright, Skyler Wright, Ashton Wright, Mackenna Wright, Cole Wright, Logan Wright, Jason Wright, Kaine Wright, Owen Sutherland, Mason Sutherland, Alaina Stone, Charlotte Wood, Alexis King and Cadence King. Bonnie is preceded in death by her husband, Gary; daughter Chelle Sutherland; granddaughter, Allison Stone; parents, Sprague and Elnora; brother, Larry Quinlan and sister, Shirley Lane.
