Bonnie Girton Wolken, 77, of Marshalltown, died Saturday night, February 11, at the Iowa River Hospice House with her loving family at her side. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 16, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Karen Cluts of the Elim Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund is being established and may be directed to her family. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph. 641-844-1234. Born Bonnie Girton on October 14, 1934, at Rhodes, Iowa, she was the daughter of Merton and Flossie A. (Richeson) Girton. She graduated from the Van Cleve High School in 1952. While at home, she ran the telephone switchboard with her mother. On September 7, 1952, she was married to Sam Newton and later to Claude Skip Wolken.For eleven years Bonnie was employed by American Business Maintenance working at Fisher Controls. She had also been employed at Montgomery-Ward in the shipping/receiving department, Grandview Heights, the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown Trowel, paraprofessional at Anson Elementary and managed apartments in Colorado when she resided there. Bonnie was a member of the Elim Lutheran Church family and enjoyed flowers, nature, hummingbirds, angels, gardening, sightseeing, watching So You Think You Can Dance and took on whatever came next. She had fond memories of remodeling her home on North 2nd Avenue, raising sheep with her father, and knew she was truly blessed with a wonderful family- she could not have asked for more. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Dennis (Kelli) Newton of Carson City, NV, Craig (Melinda) Wolken of Marshalltown, grandchildren- Kylee (Scott) Hanford of Marshalltown, Brandon Allen Claude Bro Wolken (fianc Laura Sinclair) of Marshalltown Todd (Cassie) Parker of Carson City, Chanel Parker of Carson City, great-grandchildren- Skylar, Shane, Riley, Trinity, Shylee and great-grandson Chandler on the way, her sister Betty (Jerry) Brink and brother Robert Girton (Georgiana Donahue) all of Marshalltown as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In death she rejoined her parents.
