Born on September 9th, 1933, at Cottageville, WV, he was the son of Orville Thomas and Fosie (Herbman) Stover. After 8th grade, he traveled to high school in Ripley and graduated in the class of 1951. After high school, he was employed at North American Aviation (a bomber plant) for 7 ½ years, then Kroger Grocery before joining Lennox Industries in Columbus, Ohio. In 1993, the couple moved to Marshalltown with Lennox and have called Marshalltown home since.
In October of 1953, he asked the young Helen Walker, his high school sweetheart, to become his wife. They shared their first date at the movie “Trail of the Lonesome Pine” followed by a spaghetti dinner. On June 30th, 1954, the two were married at the Methodist Church his family attended in Evans, West Virginia, on a very hot 96-degree day. The reception included ham sandwiches on biscuits and potato salad and cake made by his sister.
The newlyweds ventured to Florida on their honeymoon to visit her dad in Daytona, but the heat of Georgia made her ill, so they turned around and started their life together in Columbus, Ohio. In 1961, they welcomed daughter Shirley Jean.
Bud enjoyed gardening and flowers, fishing, and focusing his life on his faith. He was known for always having a smile.
Left to mourn his loss are Helen, his loving wife of nearly 70 years; daughter Shirley Jean (Randall Scott) Hoff of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren Carson Daniel and Keiley Diane; his sister Lola Plumbly of Parsons, WV as well as nieces, nephews and his family of friends in Marshalltown.
In death, Bud rejoined his parents, two sisters and four brothers.
