Brenda J. Catherwood, 67, of rural Whitten, died early Monday morning, April 14th, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 18th, at the Whitten Community Church with Pastor Jim Hartman officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Hauser Cemetery at Whitten. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown from 5-7:00 p.m. on Thursday. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph 641-844-1234.Born Brenda Joyce Tanner on December 28th, 1940, in Iowa City, Iowa, she was the daughter of Frank and Alice (Briggs) Tanner. She received her education in the Traer/North Tama County Schools. On July 17, 1957, in Traer, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Catherwood. They resided near Whitten where she was a homemaker, had worked at the steakhouse in Whitten and was a member of the Whitten Community Church. She enjoyed birds, flowers, was a great cook especially her pies and brownies, and loved her family. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Lois Kriegel (David) of Whitten, Larry Catherwood of Garwin, her grandchildren: Danny and Matt Lepley, Travis, Shannon, and Jason Kriegel, Jake, Lucas and Sidney Catherwood, five great-grandchildren: Austin, Kayley, Makalah, Blaze and Dakota, her brother Kent Tanner of New Albin, Iowa, sisters Karen Mannschreck and Patty Lewis both of Traer, her dog Toby, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In death she has rejoined her parents, her beloved husband who died in 1997, daughter Donna Lepley who passed in 2007, sisters Darlene and brother Johnny.
