Brent Douglas Port, 61, of Marshalltown, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2016 following his couragous battle with cancer surrounded by family and friends at home. Funeral services for Brent will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown with the burial to be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Maquoketa, Iowa at 3:00 p.m. There will be a luncheon immediately following the funeral services. Public visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Brent Port was born on August 18, 1954 in Estherville, Iowa to William L. Port and Betty Jacobs. Brent graduated from Estherville High School in 1972. On May 24, 1975; Brent was united in marriage to Yvonne Koontz in Maquoketa and they resided in Winterset and later Marshalltown. Brent had been a Land Surveyor with CGA. He was a proud member of the NRA and the Surveyors Association. He volunteered for Marshall County Conservation as well as Project Aware and the Boy Scouts whom he would donate his time and canoes for the kids. Brent loved kayaking, surveying, shooting his guns, playing darts with his buddies and woodworking. Above everything else; Brent truly cherished the time spent with his family. Brent is survived by his wife of 40 years, Yvonne. Children: Heather (Nathan) Young of Iowa City and Amber (Gene) Port Thompson of Iowa City. Mother: Betty Binning. Grandchildren: Myles, Isaac, Ainsley, Skyla and Clara. Siblings: Sue, Sally, Bill, Pam and Penny and his close friends Jerry Erickson, Bob Mingus and Ryan Flatt. Brent is preceded in death by his father William Port, daughter Jodi, step father Bob Binning and his grandparents.
