Brian Jay Kerr, 64, lifelong resident of Marshalltown, passed away unexpectedly late in the evening of Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at UnityPoint Health in Marshalltown. Cremation rites have been accorded and a celebration of life will take place on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 from 3:30 - 6:30 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Center School Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. on May 26, 2021. Mitchell Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Brian and his family. Born May 26, 1956 in Marshalltown, he was the son of Robert and Phyllis (Dobson) Kerr. The youngest of 10, Brian was raised in Marshalltown and graduated from Marshalltown High School. He was a hard worker, having spent many years in the packing and shipping area of Lennox. Brian was a member of the union and was looking forward to his approaching retirement. He met the love of his life, Kathleen “Kathi” Lindsey and they were united in marriage on September 1, 1984. He was a well-liked man and treated everyone well. He loved watching basketball, football and baseball and was an avid Hawkeyes and Yankees fan. Family was important to Brian and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 36 years, Kathi; his son, Robert W. (Robyn) Kerr of Clinton, IA; stepsons: Jeff Frohwein of IL and Joe Frohwein of MO; grandchildren: R. David Kerr, Alex Kerr and Lexi Pierce and step-grandson, JJ Handorf. He is also survived by his siblings: Robert “Bob” (Dee) Kerr of MO, Karen Kerr of FL, Larry Kerr of Marshalltown, David (Toni) Kerr of OK, Jerry “Bingo” (Becky) Kerr of TX, Roberta Kerr of MT and Kerry Kerr of IL; and sisters-in-law: Marilyn Kerr of UT, Char (Marv) Schellenberg of MO, Pat (Henry) Deutschman of TN and Deb (John) Watson of CO. Brian is preceded in death by his parents, a sister in infancy, brother John Kerr, stepson Jason Frohwein, sister-in-law Pat Kerr and in-laws Edward and Madilyn Lindsey.
