Brian Sawyer

Brian Sawyer, 49, of Marshalltown, Iowa died and went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on November 26, 2022 at the Iowa River Hospice Home surrounded by his loving family.

Services for Brian will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at 10:30 A.M. at the Le Grand Friends Church. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Brian Duane Sawyer was born on November 29, 1972 to parents Chuck and Vicki (Gerlach) Sawyer in Marshalltown, Iowa. Brian Started school at pleasant Hill but later transferred to Marshalltown School District where he excelled with the help he received. When Brian graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1991, he was selected to give the Baccalaureate speech for his graduation. He continued his education at Marshalltown Community College where he earned a certificate of Human Services.

Brian was a member of the 4-H club as well as cribbage club playing in many city tournaments. He worked for 28 years at Pizza Hut answering the phones and most likely knowing who you were by the sound of your voice. While he didn’t have his own method of transportation his fellow co-workers would help Brian in order to get him to work and home. Brian loved to cheer on the Iowa State Cyclones and would talk about them to anyone who was willing to listen. He loved to play cribbage with Paula Rush and would brag about winning regularly. He was fond of being around his family whenever he could as well as interacting with his neighbors at the Odd Fellows apartments. Additionally, he always looked forward to Sunday dinners with his brother Nick and his family or going to Dairy Queen with his mom on Wednesdays.

Brian is survived by his parents, Chuck and Vicki Sawyer; his twin brother Brett (Erin) Sawyer and his brother Nick (Cassie) Sawyer; his nieces and nephews, Christian, Tate, Ryan, Dawson, Dakota, Jack and Kinzey Sawyer; and his grandmother Arlene Gerlach.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Don (Helen) Sawyer and Dale Gerlach.
