Candace "Candy" Baker

June 23, 1946 — June 25, 2022

Heaven must have needed some laughter, funny memes and mischievousness, so they called home Candace Baker from this earthly life of 76 years and two days. Candy passed away on the morning of Saturday, June 25, 2022 at the Iowa River Hospice Home with her family at her side and beloved fur baby, Nola on her lap. Memorial services for Candy will be held on Saturday, July 9 at 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Born Candace Brown on June 23, 1946 in Marshalltown, Iowa, she was the daughter of Wayne and Jerry (Sutherland) Brown. She graduated from the Marshalltown High School’s class of 1964. On October 29, 1965 in Nevada, Iowa, she was united in marriage to Darrell Baker. The couple made their home in LeGrand, State Center and Marshalltown. Candy was employed for 35 years at Emerson - Fisher Controls and made numerous friends in the workplace. She gave of herself as a member of the UAW Local #893 and the #893 Retirees, the Marshalltown PM Kiwanis, State Center Jaceyettes and served on the board of the Members First Credit Union. Family was first in her life. She treasured each and every one of them. It was a great day when she could lounge at the pool, go to garage sales, garden, send funny memes to friends at 2:00 a.m., steal pens from businesses and make others smile. She will be greatly missed by Darrell, her loving husband of 56 years; her daughter Laura (Chip) Thomas of Marshalltown; eight grandchildren: Dana Baker (Matt Smith) of Marion, IA, Kayla (Adam) Lytle of Madrid, Seton (Makayla) Vest of Stuart, Richie Thomas (Cassandra) of Marshalltown, and Mason, Nicholas, Jackson and Jakobi Baker, all of North Carolina; eight great-grandchildren: Madelyn, Meredith, Theo, Ila, Leilani, Aaliyah, Nova, Marley and one on the way in September; her sister Cristie Brown (Phillip Loersch) of Chandler, AZ; sister-in-law Jenny Brown of Marshalltown and bonus daughter Diane Hobart, as well as many other family and friends. In death, she was able to see her beloved son Wade who passed in 2015, her parents, brother Steve Brown and bonus granddaughter Karleigh Hobart.
