Cara Jackson

Cara Sue Eberhardt Jackson 56, of Garwin, Iowa, long time resident of Marshalltown, passed away on Thursday morning, September 22, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.

Cara Sue Eberhardt was born June 29, 1966, to parents Donald Eberhardt and Sandra Zmolek Eberhardt in Marshalltown, Iowa. From an early age, Cara grew up in Garwin, Iowa. She attended high school in Garwin and graduated in 1984. Cara was united in marriage to Jeff Fisher and had two children, Crystal and Tyler. They later divorced. Cara raised her children in the Garwin and Marshalltown area. As her children grew, Cara went back to school and got her license in cosmetology and later studied at MCC. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Marshalltown. Cara enjoyed her mission work with Richardson Missions and worked several mission trips in several states.

Cara found her passion later in life. She was the founder and executive director of the Marshalltown Strong Trap Neuter Return Organization for over four years. This organization became her passion! At her retirement, Cara helped facilitate the financing of over 560 spay and neuter surgeries of feral community cats. Additionally, she loved to travel and was blessed to check off her last bucket list item, a trip to Hawaii! She loved watching her children chase their dreams and celebrating their achievements. Cara dearly loved her family!

Cara is survived by her children, Crystal Rae Fisher of Iowa City, Iowa and Jeffery Tyler Fisher of Colorado Springs, Colorado, siblings Kirk Eberhardt “Art” of Legrand, Teresa Smith of Des Moines, Jan Lingard of Marshalltown, Dona Hildreth of Coralville, numerous nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews, her beloved beagle, Gracie Anne, and her bestest friend Amanda Raymond.

Cara was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Sandra Eberhardt, her nephew Eric Lingard, and her grandparents, Fred and Wanda Zmolek, Emmett and Dorothy Pieters, and “Pops” Donald Eberhardt.

Per Cara’s wishes, her body has been donated to science. A celebration of life will be held at the Church of Christ in Marshalltown, on Monday, September 26th at 11 AM, 1402 S. Center Street. Memorials in Cara’s name may be directed to the family for a later designation.
