Carey Ann Kenner, 62, of Grimes, Iowa, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 11 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.
Born on July 24, 1962, to Ralph and Jackie Kenner of Marshalltown, Carey grew up surrounded by love and the values of hard work and kindness. She graduated from the Marshalltown High School Class of 1980. Carey raised her only child, April Stanley, of Clive, Iowa in Iowa City. Most of her life was spent in Marshalltown before moving to Grimes in 2002.
Carey pursued a lifelong career in hospitality and food service, where her warmth and dedication left a lasting impression. For the past 18 years, she worked at Perkins, holding many roles and forming cherished connections with customers and coworkers. Her infectious smile and laughter brought joy to all who knew her.
Family was at the center of Carey’s world. She adored spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, finding happiness in every moment with them. She loved making memories with her daughter and her four grandchildren who she held very close to her heart. Haylee carkhuff of Marshalltown, IA and many great grandchildren. Though life wasn’t always easy for Carey, she remained a devoted sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who touched countless lives with her love and resilience.
Carey is survived by her daughter, April Stanley of Clive; her brothers, Jeff Kenner of Grimes and Chris Kenner of Flower Mound, Texas; and her sister, Cathy Kenner Carkuff of Marshalltown. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Jackie Kenner.
Carey’s life was a testament to the power of kindness, family, and a good laugh. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Per Carey’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and formal services are set for Saturday, June 14, 2025 beginning at 2:30 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services. She will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Marshalltown, Iowa. Memorials in Carey’s name may be directed to her family for a later designation.
