Carl R. Aschan Jr., 62, of Marshalltown, went to be with our Saviour Jesus Christ Our Lord on Wednesday, March 24, 2010.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Liberty Baptist Church, 9 North 5th Ave in Marshalltown. Burial will be in Timber Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the family. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Phone 641-844-1234.Carl Richard Aschan Jr. was born on October 10, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the son of Carl Richard Aschan Sr. and Mary Reese. He attended school in Fort Dodge. On January 12, 1968, Carl married Sallie Sports at First Assembly of God in Newton, Iowa. The couple met through friends in Marshalltown. They raised two sons, Shawn and Shane.Carl, known as Pug by his friends, was employed as body shop foreman at Don Danskin Pontiac Cadillac. He then owned and operated Carls Auto Body with Sallie from 1981 until selling the business. He enjoyed hunting, skeet shooting, vintage autos, museums and antique shops, and watching the History Channel. He loved eating pizza, ice cream, and watching movies, especially Grumpy Old Men and As Good As It Gets. He was very proud of his family.Left to mourn his loss is his wife of over 42 years, Sallie of Marshalltown; his two sons Major Shawn (Chantel) Aschan of Washington, D.C., and Shane (Trish) Aschan of Silverthorn, CO; his 5 grandchildren Lauren, Shawn Wyatt, Morgan, Bodie, and Tayteum; his brother Burke (Linda)Aschan; his sisters Christine, Mary Beth Binky, and Susan; his half-brother Marty (Sue); his brothers-in-law George (Gay) Sports, Larry (Pat) Sports, and Mike (Sherri) Sports; his sisters-in-law Pat Sports, and Mari (Greg) Stayskal; and his mother-in-law Nondas Sports of the Iowa Veterans Home.In death he has rejoined his parents, his father-in-law George Sports, and his German shorthair Mandy.
