Carl Giannetto, 80, of Marshalltown passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. A Mass of Christian Burial for Carl will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 22, 2014, at St. Marys Catholic Church with Fr. Greg Bahl officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2014 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed towards the family. Carl Joseph Giannetto was born on January 19, 1934 to Louie and Maggie Halverson Giannetto in Marshalltown. Carl graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1952 and then went to serve his country in the United States Navy from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1956. On January 14, 1956, Carl was united in marriage to Barbara Gerrard. Carl was employed as a firefighter in Marshalltown and retired as Captain in 1989. He also owned Comfort Heating Service and had even begun doing work there at a very young age of 4 years old. Carl was a very talented artist. He enjoyed to sculpt and paint and could always complete a piece within an hour. He has numerous pieces and murals around Marshalltown. Carl even won awards from the Iowa State Fair for his work. Carl also enjoyed fishing, cooking, boating and watching movies outside in his yard. Left to cherish Carls memory is his children: Randy (Julie) Giannetto of Marshalltown, Sue (Ken) Lolwing of Albion, Tim (Marion) Giannetto of Greene, New York, Mark (Sherry) Giannetto of Marshalltown and Shelly Rozak of Marshalltown. Eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, brother Ron Giannetto of Fulton, Illinois and his Uncle Joe Giannetto of Union as well as numerous cousins. Carl is preceded in death by his wife Barbara, both his parents and sister Jeanne Buffington.
