Carl A. Gleason, 85, of State Center, passed away April 13, 2012 at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, IAFuneral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at 10:00 am, one hour prior to the service time. Burial will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA. For condolences or questions, please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call (641) 844-1234.Carl Albert Gleason was born in Sandpoint, Idaho on October 7, 1926; he was the son of Robert and Vida (Davis) Gleason. His family then later moved to Missouri. On January 13, 1945, Carl married Pauline Mullenix in Unionville, MO.On January 16, 1945, Carl was deployed and served his country honorably until December 11, 1946.Carl and Pauline moved to Promise City and Seymour, IA where they lived for about 20 years, raising their son and forging life long friendships. After their son graduated they moved to rural Colo, IA where they resided for about thirty years. Finally they moved to town, making State Center their home. Carl worked in Marshalltown at Fire Apparatus and then 15 years for Fisher Controls retiring in 1991. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, the outdoors, antique tractor pulls, International Tractors, and tinkering with things. Carl loved helping anyone that needed it or simply helping fix things.He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Pauline Gleason of State Center; his son, Roger (Colleen) Gleason of Dallas Center; his grandson, Chad Gleason of Dallas Center; his siblings: Linda Calhoun, Donna Tomlinson, and Barbara Johnson; his step-brother, Ronald Kaiser.He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Margaret Waller.
