Carl E. Kouba, 95, of rural Toledo, went home to be with the Lord on November5, at the Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 10, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Memorials may be designated to the Grace Brethren Foreign Missions; the Foundation Baptist which is a new church plant in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, begun by Tim and Leah Kouba Nissly; or the Iowa River Hospice. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Carl and his family. Ph. 641-844-1234. Born near Montour, Iowa, on August 16, 1916, he was the son of Pete and Velma Lamer Kouba. He received his education in a rural school and graduated from LeGrand High School in 1935. On December 1, 1945, he was married to Carol Dobson. They farmed near Montour until moving to their present home in rural Toledo in 1950. Carl truly loved his lifes work and remained active in farming and the cattle business until his death. Carl, a life-long Chicago Cubs fan, loved sports of all kinds and played baseball in neighboring communities for many years. A faithful member of the Carlton Grace Brethren Church, Carl served the Lord as trustee for many years. He spent many hours working on the fellowship hall and numerous other volunteer projects. He was a former member of the Garwin Lions Club, as well as the Garwin Community school board and a former trustee for Howard Township. Carl, a man much devoted to his family, is survived by his wife Carol; his children Barbara (Mickey) Creed of Stafford, Virginia; Alan (JoAnn) Kouba of Garwin; Mark (Sharon) Kouba of Toledo and Kay Kouba of Waterloo. In addition, he leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, his brother George of Garwin and three sisters, Marian Otta of Hubbard; Frances Howard of Marshalltown; and Evelyn (Bill) Bruster of LeGrand, as well as several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother Wayne; one grandson Paul Kouba; five brothers-in-law; and two sisters-in-law.
