Carl Proescholdt of Liscomb, Iowa, age 98, died in Marshalltown, Iowa, on Thursday, January 7, 2016. He was born in Manilla, Iowa, on June 18, 1917, the son of Frank and Paulina Bockwoldt Proescholdt. Carl married Beth Check on June 16, 1946, and their marriage lasted nearly 60 years until her death in 2006. He was a member of Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown for over 60 years. Carl received his military commission from Iowa State University and held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the XVIII Airborne Corps, serving in Europe during World War II including the Battle of the Bulge. Carls other interests included membership in the Odd Fellows Lodge for over 50 years, 50 years in the American Legion, and South Hardin Kiwanis for over 30 years. He also served as Mayor of Liscomb (12 years) and councilman and city clerk along with being a volunteer of the Liscomb Fire Department for 20 years. Carl served as school board member for 6 years in the BCL School District. Carl managed the Liscomb Grain Company for 24 years; he was appointed Marshall County Treasurer in 1979 and was later twice reelected to that position, serving until his retirement at the end of 1986. Survivors include a daughter Kathleen and husband Don Goodman of Colfax; four sons, Terry and wife Sue of Ames, Mark of Liscomb, Kevin and wife Jean Swanson of Minneapolis, Kim and wife Robin of Lamoille; sister-in-law Mary Ann Proescholdt of Lincoln, NE; brothers-in-law Earl and wife Judy Check of Madrid and Merrill and wife Harriet Check of Bonita Springs, FL, and sister-in-law Carolyn Check of Sun City West, AZ; grandchildren Andrew and James Proescholdt; Karl (Emily Margolis), Kelsie, and Krista Goodman; Carlye and Maja Proescholdt; and Jennifer (John Redick), Toni, and Randi Proescholdt; and numerous nieces and nephews. Carls siblings preceded him in death: Walter (in 1980), Laura (1998), Edward (2004), and Robert (2007). Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2016, at Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 15, 2015, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown.
