Carl Gene Walters, 78, of Albion, died Monday, September 15, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2008, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Bea Lebuda officiating. Burial will be in the Marietta Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Carl Eugene Walters was born on July 30, 1930 in Hardin County, Iowa near New Providence. He was the son of John Raymond and Wanda Dorothy (Butler) Walters. Gene attended school in Missouri. On February 24, 1951, he married Betty Oleta Rhoads in Greene City, Missouri. The couple lived in Marshalltown until 1953, and then moved to a farm in Missouri. In 1960, they returned to the Marshalltown area, living most recently in Albion. Gene worked at Fisher Controls for many years as a tool grinding machine specialist. He was a member of the UAW and he attended Albion Presbyterian Church. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of over 57 years, Betty; his 4 children, Sherry Lynn (John)Van De Woestyne of Marshalltown, Patsy Snyder of Albion, Mitzie Westphal of Albion, Clint (Rosie) Walters of Steamboat Rock; Deb Walters, mother of Lindsay and Cody Walters, his 9 grandchildren; his 5 step-grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and his sisters, Eva Darlene Lunsford of Albion, Barbara Elliott of Marshalltown, and Wanda Lois Valentine of Kirksville, MO. In death, he has rejoined his parents; his brother, Donald Dean Walters; and two sons-in-law, Tate Snyder and Bob
