Carla Olga Meinecke, 84, of State Center, Iowa, died Saturday night, June 2nd, at Ahlstrom Foster Home in Rochester, MN, while in care of hospice.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 7th, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in State Center with Pastor Gary MacManus officiating and Pastor Mark Holmes, guest pastor. She will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery in Charles City at 10:00 a.m. on Friday with Pastor Tom Koelln of the St. John Lutheran Church in Zimmerman, MN., officiating. Friends may call at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in State Center from 6-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Memorials may be directed to the family or the Iowa River Hospice. Ph 641-483-2900.Born Carla Baumann on May 3rd, 1923, at St. Clair, Michigan, she was the only daughter born to Ernest and Olga (Steffen) Baumann, Sr. She graduated from the St. Clair High School in 1941 and later attended business school in Port Huron, Michigan. For 18 years, Carla was employed at the Diamond Crystal Salt Company as secretary in St. Clair.On September 27th, 1959, she was united in marriage to Rev. LaVerne Meinecke at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in St. Clair where she was a member and church organist. They pastored in Lakota, Iowa and, on November 22nd, 1963, moved to State Center where he was pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church until his retirement in January, 1980. He preceded Carla in death on November 21, 1981. Carla was an active member of the church, the ELCW and was a former greeter-volunteer at the MMSC. She was also employed at the State Center Manor until retiring in December of 1983.Left to celebrate her life is her daughter, Etta Meinecke of Rochester, MN, sister-in-law, Wilma Baumann of St. Clair, MI, cousins, her church family and many friends.In death she has rejoined her parents, her husband, brother Ernest, Jr. and nephew, Ernest III.
