Carol was born June 12, 1941 at home during a rainstorm in Greene, Iowa to parents Albert and Alice (Heinmiller) Boerschel. She grew up on the family farm, attending country school through eighth grade. After her graduation from Waverly High School, she attended Iowa State Teacher’s College (UNI). She met the love of her life, Gene Graveman, and they were united in marriage on June 18, 1961 in Waverly. Together they made their home in Reinbeck, where they raised their three children. As a family, they enjoyed fishing and taking trips up north to Minnesota and Canada. Carol enjoyed volunteering as a Girl Scout troop leader and Boy Scout den mother for her children. They enjoyed 26 years of wedded bliss before Gene’s untimely passing in 1987. In addition to her hard work and dedication as a loving wife and mother, Carol worked seasonal jobs at the Reinbeck Canning Factory and Pioneer Hybrid. She spent several years waitressing before taking a position at Parkview Manor Nursing Home, where she worked for 30 years before retiring. Even in retirement she volunteered at the nursing home to help with feeding. A woman of strong faith, Carol was an active member of the Reinbeck United Methodist Church. She enjoyed Women’s Circle and meeting her friends for coffee. More than anything, she loved her church, her family, especially enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her friends. Carol will be deeply missed by all those who knew her. Left to cherish her memory are her three children: Curtis “Curt” (Carol) Graveman of Reinbeck, Gary Graveman (Kelly) of St. Joseph, MO and Julie Flege (Randy) of Gladbrook. Her life was also blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In eternal life, she is reunited with her beloved husband, Gene; her parents, Albert and Alice and her sister, Shirley.
