Carol Luthe

Carol L. Luthe, 86, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away in her sleep on Sunday, November 19, 2023 in the comfort of her own home.

Visitation with family and friends will be held at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, November 26th, 2023 at the First Methodist Church, 202 W. Main St. Marshalltown, Iowa. Services will immediately follow at 2:00 P.M. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation. Carol Louise Cormicle was born October 16, 1937 in Waterloo, Iowa. She was the youngest of two children born to Leonard and Mabel Cormicle. Carol attended school in Marshalltown, Iowa, graduating with her class of 1955. After High School, she furthered her education and received her degree in Nursing.

On October 16, 1987, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, John Luthe at the First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. (It was through a previous marriage that Carol was blessed with her son, Timothy, and daughter, Christy.) Carol always stayed active in nursing, working for the Marshalltown Hospital, and later as a Doctor’s Assistant giving physicals for insurance companies, which is where she eventually retired from in 2000. She had a heart for caring for others that started with her family and extended beyond, not just to the community, but to caring for individuals with special needs as well.

Carol was active within the First Methodist Church in Marshalltown where she was involved with the choir and participated in their yearly production of Handel’s Messiah. She also took part in her class reunion and the UAW Retirees. Carol was always involved with the church and reading her bible. As a general rule, her faith and family always came first; her most important role was to support and care for her family, whom she loved very much.

Those left to remember and cherish her memory are her husband, John Luthe; her son, Tim (Lisa) Bruns; her granddaughters, Jasmine (Jessie) Goodwin and Jennifer (Rick) McIlrath; her great-grandchildren, Logan McIlrath, Mackenzie McIlrath, Connie Bruns, Morgan Bruns, Benjamin Bruns, Brodii Goodwin, and Harlie Goodwin.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Christy Bruns; her parents Leonard and Mabel Cormicle; her brother, Jim Cormicle; and her grandson, Jeremy Bruns.
