Carol Ann Pierson

Carol Ann Pierson, 76, passed away on January 19, 2018 at the Landmark Hospital in Columbia, MO surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. A public visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until service time. Carol was born on January 8, 1942 to Sherman and Marjorie (Swenson) Lathrop in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She attended the Clemons High School and graduated with the class of 1960.  On October 1, 1960 she married the love of her life Richard Pierson in Albany, MO. The two made their lives together in the Marshalltown area where Carol worked at Fisher Controls and later as a secretary for Central Iowa Christian Academy. After raising her family, she attended Marshalltown Community College and earned a degree as a Medical Assistant and X-ray Tech in 1985, then working in the Marshalltown medical community.She was a collector of teddy bears, and always went out of her way to find new ones. She loved the Cardinals baseball team and would watch every chance she could. She loved her family discussions about politics and government. She was an extremely proud grandmother and cherished time with her grandchildren. She became the history buff in the family always researching her family genealogy and published four books. Carol impacted many lives and will be missed by her family and countless friends. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 57 years, Richard, children: Kimberley (John) Dupre of Emerald, WI, Mark (Rhona) Pierson of Ankeny, IA, and Brian Pierson of Austin, TX. Grandchildren Justin Pierson (Chayse German) of Ankeny, IA; Stephanie Pierson (Fiancé Matt Stuart) of Ankeny, IA; Nick Pierson of San Francisco, CA, and one great-grandchild on the way, brother Carl Lathrop of Peoria, IL, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.Carol is preceded in death by her parents Sherman and Marjorie.
