Carol Schaper, 75 of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, June 21, 2013, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Phone 641-844-1234.Carol Ruth Mendenhall was born on December 17, 1937, in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was the daughter of Allen and Ruth (Johnson) Mendenhall. Carol attended school in the Marshalltown School District and went on to attend 1 year of college. On June 20, 1959, Carol was united in marriage to Robert William Schaper at the First Baptist Church in Marshalltown. Carol worked at the Telephone Company and then had an in home daycare. She enjoyed ceramics, baking, and puzzles. Carol loved children and making birthdays special for kids. She also enjoyed books while in the nursing home.Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 53 years, Robert Schaper; her children: Karen (Jim) Stevenson and Steve Schaper. Grandchildren: Charles and Kaitlyn Stevenson and Jacob Schaper. Siblings John (Judy) Mendenhall, Eleanor (Steve) Ullrich, Dave (Sharon) Mendenhall and Robert Michael Mendenhall.In death Carol rejoins her parents, Allen and Ruth.
