Carol Ann Vogel, 80, of Marshalltown died on Tuesday, December 14, 2021. She passed peacefully after several years of declining health. Carol was born in Marietta, Minnesota, on July 6, 1941, to Bernice (Reber) and Dillon Taylor. She was a middle child with five siblings. She grew up in nature, playing among the flowers and trees.Throughout her life, she gardened and created. She saw potential at every turn and was able to effortlessly convert a stretch of grass into a booming English garden. Carol also loved animals and cared for many over the years, including dogs, cats, wild birds, and even a squirrel, which she named “Freeloader.” Carol, known as “C.T.” to her oldest friends, was very witty and funny. She enjoyed telling stories. Her insights and laughter will be dearly missed. She also loved to paint and decorate. She renovated many houses during her lifetime and they remain better for it. She was a talented seamstress as well, sewing curtains for everyone she knew, along with bags and purses. She worked hard all her life and held jobs as a real estate agent, an insurance salesperson, an interior decorator, a nurse’s aide, an antiques dealer, and a weighmaster at the Martin Marietta quarry. She is survived by three children, Jennifer Vogel (Mike), Nicholas Vogel, and Elizabeth Vogel; a sister, Marjorie Mason (Bernard), and a brother, Glenn Taylor (Joann); three grandchildren, Logan Vogel, Reece Vogel, and Olivia Lanter; and many nieces and nephews. She was cremated, as was her wish, and her ashes will be spread in the spring, among the flowers she so dearly loved. Donations in her name can be made to the Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown.
